FRI Tanjung Demong

FRI Tanjung Demong was established in 1984 and initially named Marine Fish/Shrimp Fry Production Centre. In 1986, the name of the centre was replaced to Marine Fish Fry Production Centre to suit the new function which excludes shrimp production. In 1992, the name was again replaced with the Centre for Marine Fish Production and Research following the incorporation of research elements into the functions. Starting in 2021, the name FRI Tanjung Demong was used for standardization with other FRI centres across the country.

FRI Tanjung Demong consists of 6 research officers and 32 technical and administrative staff. Its main objectives are to help increase the production and sustainability of the marine aquaculture industry through R&D in breeding systems, seeding and rearing techniques, nutrition and fish health management. FRI Tanjung Demong is also active in technology transfer activities through scheduled and unscheduled course programs, external training, technical workshops, as well as providing services for fish health diagnosis, site selection and water quality analysis.
