FRI Glami Lemi

FRI Glami Lemi started as the Tropical Fish Culture Research Institute (TFCRI) in Batu Berendam Melaka on 21 August 1957 under the British government administration. In January 1971 the management of TCFRI was handed over to the Malaysian Government and administered by the Malaysian Department of Fisheries (DOF). In July 1972, its management was handed over to MARDI before it was handed back to DOF in June 1984, under the name Freshwater Fisheries Research Centre (PPIAT) or Freshwater Fisheries Research Centre (FFRC). This centre has moved from Melaka and officially operates in Jelebu Negeri Sembilan on January 1, 2006. IPP GL conducts studies related to freshwater fish and has a vision to become a reference centre for freshwater fishing technology.

  • FRI Glami Lemi has 3 main objectives, which are:

    1. To implement a freshwater aquaculture research program
    2. To implement a research program and conservation of inland fisheries resources
    3. To provide technical services, technology transfer and dissemination of research findings to the target groups

The workforce in 2023 is comprised of 13 research officers and 59 technical and administrative support staff. Research allocations are mainly from the Malaysia Development Plan and small inputs from the local funds such as the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change.
