The National Marine Park Research Centre

The National Marine Research Centre (PPTLN) was established on 1 October 2019. It is the newest centre under the Fisheries Research Institute. The objectives of its establishment are (i) to become a centre of excellence for research on marine resources in the Marine Parks, and (ii) to become a coordinating centre for R&D related to Marine Park for the management and conservation of its treasures.

In 2023, PPTLN has three Research Officers and is assisted by two implementing staff. Obtaining R&D allocations from the development warrants of the Fisheries Headquarters and the Fisheries Research Institute, as well as allocations from external agencies such as “The National Conservation Trust Fund for Natural Resources (NCTF)”. PPTLN has carried out cooperation with strategic fishing partners (resort operators and Local Study Institutions) such as Borneo Divers Resort, Sabah; Alunan Resort, Terengganu; The Datai Resort, Kedah, as well as the National University of Malaysia (UKM) Bangi; University of North Malaysia (UUM) Sintok; and MARA University of Technology (UiTM) Perlis.
